Taufiq Ahmed Tafsir, washingtonnews,Dhaka, 22 May 2025 : Army Chief General Walker-Uz-Zaman said the national election should be held by December next December. He also said he was in the previous position on the election.
He said this at the Officers’ Address organized by the Dhaka Cantonment premises on Wednesday (May 27th). Officials from different levels of the army stationed in Dhaka participated. Many officers were virtually added.

Speaking on the occasion, the army chief said that the Bangladesh Army will never be involved in any activity that will be detrimental to sovereignty.
According to multiple sources related to the event, the army chief praised the relentless service and promise of the armed forces in national stability. He thanked everyone and said that the army is providing all kinds of assistance to the interim government, it will do so in the future.
General Walker ordered the military of all levels to remain neutral, saying that the army should return to the barracks as soon as the political government took responsibility.
The army chief also talked about the discussion on humanitarian corridor to send relief to Rakhine state in Myanmar. In a question about this, he said that the decision on the humanitarian corridor in Rakhine State should come from an elected government and it should be followed by the legal process. Here you have to see the national interest. Which has to be done by protecting the national interest. Whatever it is, it must be through the Political Concensus (political consensus).
The army chief also talked about the recent discussion and debate on the hands of foreign companies to manage the Numurring Container Terminal (NCT) of Chittagong Port.
On a question about this, he said that the opinion of local people and political leaders will be needed here. Such a decision should be made through the political government.

The army chief mentioned in his statement that the Bangladesh Army will never be involved in any activity that is harmful to national sovereignty. He ordered that all levels of army personnel be neutral and to observe the electoral responsibilities in the future with honesty and devotion.
